  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 oz tempeh crumbled
  • 1 small red bell pepper diced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ cup vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

For Serving:

  • 4 hamburger buns toasted
  • ½ cup coleslaw optional

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Sauté onion and garlic for 2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add bell pepper and crumbled tempeh, cooking for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in tomato paste, tomato sauce, maple syrup, soy sauce, and spices.
  • Pour in vegetable broth and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Stir in apple cider vinegar, taste, and adjust seasoning.
  • Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and top with coleslaw if desired.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious mess.
