General Tso’s Tofu Recipe
Ingredients
For the Tofu
- 1 block 14 oz extra-firm tofu (pressed and cubed)
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
For the Sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp maple syrup or agave
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sriracha adjust to taste
- 2 tsp fresh ginger grated
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ½ cup vegetable broth
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
For Garnish
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 green onions chopped
Instructions
Prepare the Tofu
- Press tofu for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Cut into bite-sized cubes and toss with soy sauce, garlic powder, and cornstarch.
Crisp the Tofu
- Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook tofu until golden and crispy, about 5 minutes per side.
Make the Sauce
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, vinegar, sriracha, ginger, garlic, and vegetable broth.
- Mix cornstarch with water and add to the sauce.
